SOUNDS
About Us
nu.wav is a NYC-based sound design house crafting forward-thinking, industry-friendly samples. We are a diverse collective of producers, musicians and sound designers embedded in various corners of the New York live and recorded music scenes--from hip hop and r&b to pop, rock, house, electronic, experimental, punk and jazz. The six of us met when we were selected to be a part of Splice’s first-ever Creator Class, a year-long mentorship program that trained us in the art and industry of sample creation. Our different characters, experiences and identities as individuals shape our collective sound-design ethos and aesthetic to make our work stand out among all the samples now available online. Our goal is not only to make uniquely interesting sounds but also to inspire and empower those who may not have the confidence or access to build their craft as music-makers, and to better equip them to express themselves through sonic media, thereby amplifying underrepresented perspectives.
Who we are
BRYN
Bryn Bliska is a producer, composer and musician based in Brooklyn, NY. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, she studied neuroscience and music at Brown University before working as a Graduate Research Assistant in Tod Machover's Opera of the Future group at the MIT Media Lab. Now a freelance creative, she frequently collaborates with artists & producers across many genres, and has scored video & podcast projects for the New York Times, NPR, the Getty Museum, and TED. An artist in her own right, she was a recipient of the 2015 ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award, and is excited to be releasing new solo work in 2020. Her sound and skills merge a childhood soundtracked by ’90s pop and R&B jams with her jazz training and affinity for technology. Her creative mission is to support historically marginalized and underrepresented people and to amplify their sounds and stories.
BYRON
Byron is a sound designer and producer based in Upstate NY. With almost a decade of music production experience, Byron has spent the last several years focused heavily on sound design and the sample creation industry, producing and releasing over 20 sample packs independently during this time. Influenced by the sounds of alternative R&B and experimental hip-hop, Byron uses analog and modular synthesizers, along with other emerging music technologies and in-the-box processing to craft an innovative, forward-thinking sound. Byron uses his sample packs not only as a medium for sonic and musical exploration, but also a platform to empower other musicians and creatives to monetize their crafts.
COREY
Corey is one half of the Brooklyn-based “alt-R&B” duo, Bathe. He’s a guitarist and a producer, with a passion for combining R&B with indie music. During the day, he works as a freelance writer for several publications.
SIMEN
Simen Sez is a Brooklyn based DJ, producer, recording engineer and creative. He grew up between Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Norway. At the age of four he started playing violin, and over the years he also studied piano, guitar, bass and drums. In high school he became obsessed with music production. Simen spent hours every day after school making beats that he would pass out to classmates at school. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Northeastern University, he moved to New York to pursue music where he began his professional music career. His first job was as an assistant recording engineer where he worked primarily on Jazz records. After a few years, he opened up his own recording studio, The Joint, located in Brooklyn. Simen's production and DJ sound is eclectic. His productions span genres including hip-hop, R&B, house, afro-beat and pop records.
KHAYA
Khaya ( is a producer, songwriter and singer for her band Moon Kissed. She was born and raised in New York City and has been involved in the writing and performance circuit since she was 14. After returning from being on a season of The X Factor in 2013, she decided to pursue a career in music, attending the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU for college. Here she honed her skills as a songwriter and producer, and since graduating in 2019 she’s been writing and producing for artists ranging from her close friends to artists like Quinn XCII and Anna of the North. In addition to her writing and production, she is the lead singer and producer of electric synth pop trio Moon Kissed, who in their first year of meeting played over 100 shows, including a sold out Union Pool record release show and an opening slot at Bowery Ballroom. Khaya’s style usually leans towards pop with a slight dark, weird edge to it.
ALEJANDRO
Alejandro Vega is a producer, engineer and drummer/percussionist born and raised in Managua, Nicaragua. He graduated as a Music Production & Engineering major from Berklee College of Music in 2015. Since then, he has worked in New Orleans, Nicaragua and Brooklyn. He has toured Japan and Europe with the Nicaraguan artists Katia Cardenal and La Cuneta; he has produced, engineered and performed with Dan Freeman, Chris Cubeta, Gary Atturio, Adam Travis, Marjan Farsad, Momotombo, among others. Alejandro’s approach to sound design and production relies on his modular set up, Cecilia and Ableton’s warping artifacts. His style leans towards heavily rhythmic arrangements, edgy processing and out of the ordinary juxtapositions.
